REFRACTOBOND ALP, ALS, MGS and TLS
HIGH TEMPERATURE CERAMIC ADHESIVES

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Surface Preparation

Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to application.  Extremely smooth surfaces should be roughened by sanding or sandblasting.  Porous substrates should be brushed with clean water or pre-coated with a thin layer of adhesive to avoid wicking.  For iron and steel, assure that the surfaces are free form oils including those which might have penetrated during machining, etc.

Mixing

REFRACTOBOND Adhesives should be thoroughly mixed to a uniform consistency.  Mix slowly to avoid air entrapment.  REFRACTOBOND MGS two component system should be mixed 1.5 parts powder to 1.0 parts liquid by weight.

Application

Apply coatings thinly using a brush, spatula or dipping.  If spraying, the viscosity can be lowered by adding small amounts of water.  Maintain a uniform glue line thickness of 2-8 mils. Apply even pressure (clamp if possible), and wipe away excess material before drying.

After adhesive is applied, air dry for 4 hours until it has hardened.   When it is necessary to use an adhesive as a coating, and several applications are required, allow the substrate to air dry for 1-2 hours before applying a second coat.  A 200 ºF heat cure is also recommended for each successive coat to avoid bubbling and blistering.

Curing

All adhesives should air dry for 4 hours, then heat cured at 175 ºF for 4 hours to remove residual moisture.  For best results, proceed with step firing at 200 ºF for 1 hour, 500 ºF for 1 hour and 700 ºF for 1 hour.

Safety

Accumet’s REFRACTOBOND high temperature ceramic adhesives can be cleaned from brushes, spatulas and spraying equipment with soap and water.  Wash from skin with soap and warm water.  Prolonged skin contact should be avoided to prevent skin irritation.  See MSDS for additional handling.

Storage

REFRACTOBOND ALP, ALS, MGS and TLS should be stored at room temperature and high humidity environments should be avoided.  Typical shelf life is 6-12 months.
